Good morning, everyone.
14.000km by motorbike across New Zealand, camping and hunting for waves. It sounds like a dream of freedom, and it’s the intense and rewarding road trip by made and documented by surfer Torren Martyn and filmer Ishka. We waited until today to send the newsletter just so “Lost Track New Zealand” was released and we could share it with you (yes, we are big Torren Martyn fans).

In surf tribe news: it won’t be a 14.000km / 3 months road trip but this October we will be doing a one week Portugal road trip with yours truly on a surf-house on wheels. As a group of max. 5 stoked intermediate surfers, we’ll be travelling and surfing along the Costa Vicentina from Sines to Sagres. More info here (or reply to the email).
Ready to wake up every morning to the sound of the waves?
At the beginning of the month, we will also be doing a Sail & Surf trip from Portimão to Sagres, surfing and sailing every day in the South and South-West coast of Portugal. Again, for intermediate surfers (with own wetsuit & surfboard) that want to truly immerse themselves for one full week in the ocean.
And now it’s time for more surfing content, courtesy of the internets. On this edition we go on a video-trip around the world.v
First up, a place we’ve never been to but would really like to visit and surf someday: Mexico.
A true surf trip is one without any distractions. No nightlife. No sights to see. Nothing but a pre-dawn alarm, six hours of surfing, and a couple of post-barrel beers before collapsing in bed. Rinse and repeat daily until your eyes are so red, body so sunburnt and arms and legs so tired that you can no longer get yourself up in the morning. - Why Mainland Mex Is Still The Ultimate Summer Trip, Surfer Mag
Moving from Mexico to Indonesia, we check how “normal” (as in better than average but not professional) surfers fared during the month of July in Desert Point and Bali. Quite well, we’d say.
From Indonesia our eyeballs head to the land of rights (a.k.a. Morocco, same wave as the first photo up top) where Alex Gray gets barrel after barrel for three minutes. The video is called “Sardine Sandwich” and we’re not sure why.
Our last stop on this impromptu round-the-world-trip takes us to Brasil (Baia Formosa) where 2019’s world champion Italo Ferreira shows why he is a world champion. His surfing is fast, explosive and most of all incredibly fun to watch (and he’s not wearing a leash – why should you when you never ever fall?).
That’s a wrap; see you in two weeks in your inbox – or this October and November in the line-ups of Portugal & Sardinia.
